As a graphic designer I find myself using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop on a daily basis and I am learning new things everyday about them. One thing that I grew tired of was having a multitude of files littering my computer. Every time that I needed to make a separate version of a project for a change of color or a separate size I would have to create a new file, littering my computer more. After I discovered that Illustrator had artboards I started using them left and right. I would have projects that had 20 artboards depending on the project but I still had the same clutter problem with Photoshop.

My professors were always pushing for artboards in Illustrator projects but what about Photoshop? Recently I was shown by a fellow designer that photoshop has that capability too. By right clicking the Move tool you can have access to the artboard tool. What is nice about using the artboard tool in photoshop is that you can have complete control. You can change the sizes, position them for easier photo manipulation if you are working on an image that goes across multiple artboards, and they are all displayed neatly in the Layers panel so that you are not switching between tools like in Illustrator.

Next time you have a project with multiple parts then give Photoshops artboards a try.
